Thrift Support in Istio Components

I’d like to know what the status of Thrift support is, and what the roadmap looks like for support. It looks like Envoy just added support, so I wouldn’t expect it to be immediately supported.

If it’s not on the roadmap, what kind of effort would be involved in contributing that functionality? What components need to be modified, and are there any interim workarounds?
