There has been a lot of prior discussion about expanding the controls for tracing beyond the current Pilot environment variable for controlling sampling globally.

To that end, I’ve drafted an initial proposal for enhancing Istio’s control over tracing: https://tinyurl.com/y3lnlf7n.

I’m looking for community feedback and suggestions. I will bring this to the next P&T meeting for further discussion.

It should be available. I added it to the Istio Community team drive. Do you have access to that drive?

I’m away from a computer for awhile, but will check again next chance I get.
