Istio Proxy Extensions

Hi all,
We’re interested in writing custom Istio proxy filters using the envoy filter api as seen below:

envoyproxy/envoy-filter-example

I know that examples like the above exist that extend vanilla envoy, but are there examples that extend the Istio proxy?
